This is the weirdest "sickness" I've ever had and maybe the most frustrating. I feel basically normal just that I'm soooo run down. It is truly and genuinely boring to sit here like a couch potato and watch time fly by, missing workout after workout, thinking about my skates, just waiting until this weird thing clears from my system. I really do assure you I have realized that I am not the only person in the world with a small problem, but I do wish this would hurry up and pass so that I could get back on the road to Sochi, 2014.

I'm watching Forest Gump - well - really, I'm watching commercials with a little bit of thee movie thrown in, but it really is a good movie. I like it a lot better seeing it again.

Last night i watched a craaaaazy movie called Hard Candy with the girl from Juno as a truly psycho 14 year old girl. ummm, not for the faint of heart.

So with Ingmar in the house, there have been lots of conversations about skating obviously. Last night we had a heated debate with the whole family about Apolo. Apparently all or most of the skaters don't like how he skates. He is a dirty skater. So we all debated the famous 1000m race from salt lake. Good stuff.

So I've been told by many people that custom skates are actually extremely frustrating and painful. So far that is true. Yesterday I skipped stair training in the morning because i came down with something the night before. I would not have gone to training that night either but I received my skates ! as was documented yesterday. So I showed up to skating, didn't even warm up or stretch and got on the ice with a sore throat, head-ache, upset stomach, and a general run-down feeling. So with that said, one can imagine how it was hard enough to motivate myself to skate. The new skates are sooooo tight. especially on the right foot, it feels like a wrench clamped around my heel and if I try to lift up, it feels like my heel is suctioned to the boot. I could hardly do anything last night. I did get to watch Jeff Simon again though, which is pretty cool. The great part of last night is I had gotten a response from the Craig's List ad and I actually scheduled a lesson for this sunday!!! This morning I was still feeling under the weather but I did all I could do on the ice and was actually skating on the new skates! Although they are still intensely painful, I was able to really understand what I'm looking at down the road. These things are like platforms to jump off they are so sturdy. I think they also kind of force you into the right position. Towards the end of the practice, I was pushing it with the pain and the fatigue and I fell for the first time. It was a pretty good fall. It was loud. I think it was a combo of the skates and the tiredness. Also, we were doing sprint work this morning which is not exactly ideal for adjusting to new skates. I got off after the fall and somehow got my poor feet out of their vices and then watched the guys do a relay, just one team, all out, 1.5 laps each. It was pretty cool. Viktor was cranking out 8.9s and 8.8s by the end and Jeff was doing 9.0s with two arms on his back on terrible ice at the end of a 2 hour practice. Pretty inspiring to watch. I really hope this thing goes away so I can get serious again and really get used to my new babies.
We were going to go to the X-games after practice today, but Ingmar decided he was too tired and it was better to chill.

got it out!! I had to pull each toe out before i could get my heel out. wow, what a fit. Holy @#$%
ok so, three times was the charm. After the third try, I got my right foot into the boot without the laces... now i cannot for the life of me gett it out!!
So, about the bed switch... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh nevermind! My skates are here!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Monday, July 26, 2010

Yo yo! As if a magician rolled through this house and swept his wand, I somehow am writing this laying on my own full size bed again though Ingmar is here too. Last night just did not go well. We both slept badly especially me. There just wasn't enough room. This is america after all. Things are supposed to be big and spaced out here, right? I'll describe the details of the switch another time. Now, I have to get some rest - today was tough. I just wanted to write that this morning, the first day back on the ice after the 5 day break was revolutionary for me. My legs felt like feathers. wilma said they looked bigger than when i arrived already! We did 15 minute, two-man relays, 5 laps each partner 3 times and 2x3 lap accels in between.
That was abrupt but i'm out!

WOW. I have been playng the cello a lot today ( not in front of anybody or for any financial gains unfortunately - it just hasn't worked out yet - ) and I just stunned myself. That last movement sounded so good. I love the cello. period. I can forget everything when i play it. Thanks mom for all those days you forced me to play and for sharing your musicality with me. I'm lucky to have the cello.

Anyway... whats new... Training starts again tommorow so i made sure to be ready mostly by preparing my mind and skates too. I went for an hour jog today and was really feeling it by the end. ( don't tell Wilma but i had a huge hot fudge sunday last night and i think i felt it today running). The sun was hot though. That's my public excuse. lol.

Ingmar's back in town. In fact he's now in the same bed as me!!! we went out and got a mattress for a great deal apparently. It's a pillow top, which basically means there's a whole layer of cushion and we got it for $200 - 1benjamin each. It is a queen size and actually is quite comfortable, however, i have never slept with a guy before...especially not one who wears tight pink underwear. Well, he told me to slap him if i find him thinking i'm his girlfriend in the night. whatever...rolling with the flow. It's cool.

I realised recently that I don't talk about my host parents nearly enough on here. They are so awesome! I mean, soe of the most selfless, most generous people i've met. Plus they have great taste in music. They also like a lot of the same tv shows, such as the Chapelle Show, SNL, Chris Rock, and obviously they are older so they've been introducing me to some old school west side rap which is cool. I love them. I don't know how they do it. They have really good values and everything. The mom ( Alexandria has won two EMY awards and one Peabody for tv producing and the father is an Engineer. Getaneh is fully Ethiopian and Alex is part Ethiopian. They are cool enough that we can really share some good laughs together and generally have a good time.
That's all for now
Goodnight.

Yesterday I took a super hot 20 min. bath and then did yoga. I had tried following a yoga dvd that the family owns the night before but it had nothing on the stuff Gary taught me. The only thing is it does get hard to remember all the moves and to know the best order and everything but it was good.
I took a jog after and took a shower then Sammy picked me up and we went to the beach party at the same place as last time. It was super windy and cold but i still went in after a while and it was so nice. The water was soooo warm but when i got out it was sooooo cold. However i was prepared. I got my warm clothes on and sat around the fire with my new club conversing jovially with the vermillion sun hovering over the water and slowly sinking. (lol)

Apparently the skates are on their way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 5 star Ritz-Carlton at Laguna Beach behind on the hill where my dad was lucky enough to stay on a photoshoot once. Too bad it got overcast basicly as soon as we got to the beach because it was coooold.
Trip to Laguna Beach
Catching a "gnarly wave, dude!"
Me and my host dad, Getanah, from Ethiopia! I have an Ethiopian meal promised soon.

tat wata was a colddd!
This is the pic we posted for the add on Craig's List for cello lessons
IN AND OUT is a burger joint around here like Burger King but much better. It's still not exactly fresh veggies and vitamins but it's okay once in a while - on those nights on the way home from skating when we just need a quick bite... mm - so good.
So yesterday when i said i'd do a quick workout then get busy...well, I lied again. But I did not know that Sammy was on his merry way to pick me up. I did a quick workout with the band and then he got here.
Okay, lots to catch up on...
- Probably the coolest news is that... drum-role... J.R. CELSKI IS COMING BACK TO So. CAL TO TRAIN HERE!!! For those who don't know, J.R. was in the olympics last year and won a bronze medal. I could narrate his story, but let me get a fresh picture instead of my lack-luster writing for a change: http://www.jrcelski.com/media-gallery/
Just a couple links to check out this guy. Oh and by the way, the guy who finishes second in the 5oometer junior record, Viktor Knoch, yeah, he's also skating here now and I was hanging out with him last night...just saying. :)
This friday, I will be driving to San Diego to play at an open mic with Jeanette and Sammy. Jeanette was already going and when she heard me play the cello she invited me to come along. I am trying to get out and change things up as much as possible so I agreed to go, though at first I somehow missed the part that its in San Diego which is an hour and a half away. We got together last night to rehearse, and though we didn't get anything together, she played and it was clear she has lots of talent so it should be fun. The next day, (sat)I am planning to go to a place called Fashion Allen or something and play, Hopefully, I can make some money!!! No responses on the Craig's List adds so it looks like that was a dead end, but I can still find ways to make money. Of course this is all possible beacause Wilma has pityingly given us 5 days of optional rest. I still will go wed and sat. nights to skate however because those are sessions I paid for at the beginning of the month. Oh well, they will be technique-only sessions for me.
The rest comes at the perfect time as I have been truly struggling lately. I mean, it's not the struggling where something's wrong - it's just the training is so hard and the guys i'm skating with push me to such limits every training so that after a while, I just need a breather to restart the motivation. Of course, with a break within sight, I pushed hard to the finish monday and tuesday. Mon. was ice in the morning which was a terrible sessions for me. We did a lot of hgh speed stuff and my blades were not sharpened well and I didn't have enough sleep. The afternoon was beach training which I think is one of the hardest. I did quite well there, which motivated me to sharpen real well that night and go to sleep at 9: 20, the earliest i could for the early morning 5am wake-up. I did much better as a result and really found a good feeling for the ice by the end of the session. We did 21, 30, 21, 30, 21 laps at 11.5 accelerating to 10.5 every three. I led the first one. I was supposed to do 12 laps and then peel off, but i lost track and just kept going, actually leading all the 21 save for the last 3 which were at 11.5 so i could have finished but I thought there was still an acceleration left and peeled off. That was a good sign. The rest of the session obviosly got harder and harder and by the end, I had three people ask me if I was okay, that's how tired-looking i was, but I still finished every one and at the end I was following Edyn (the machine) with two arms on my back doing 9.8 second laps. It was an amazing feeling to enter the turn with complete confidence at least 75% of the time and fell every inch of ice go by under my seemingly red-hot blade.

hey everyone. I'm just super busy right now - one more quick workout, then i'll get busy here.

Friday, July 16, 2010

That was some good italian food. Dead tired as usual and hittin the sac early.
In a pub with the club cheering the dutch on. Couldn't resist the orange puff puffs.

many more thousand words

AHH Training was tough this morning. I didn't get enough sleep because I underestimated the annoying amount of time it would take to sharpen. It really just takes 30-40 minutes every time now. This morning i was so dead. Between the sunburn and the dogg-on blades... grrrr. Got to the ice rink at 7:20 and this morning we did 20 second sprints with 40 second rest 10 times and two sets. After ice we did 2x regular/power belt then 6x knee-ups (20 secs), resistance sprints with the belt, and sprints... Wil told me not to do weights until after the break when Ingmar is back and we can do it together. Instead, i do belt exercises...hah! frying pan to fire. She gave me a belt and tommorow morning i will le faire... I finally got two adds on Craig's list for events and weddings and for cello lessons! Hopefully i can start making some money. I'm finding out how expensive this sport is. There is the coaching fee - monthly. The biggest cost is the ice time itself. Then there's the countless little things like power bars, the right peanut butter which is healthy and not fattening, the right cereal, etc. ... I went for a half hour run - half of what it should of been ( I had to come back to go to dinner) - and did some core. Now we are going to an Italian place to eat - nice, I'm starving... more pics coming.

Goodnight. :) I will be posting some pics hopefully if I can figure it all out - shout out to waldorf school for keeping me in the dark in terms of techy things. hahaha. Love it.
Today was a tough one. I'm really starting to drag mentally. I'm just tired in every respect and the blades are such a pain. Today i was gunna take a nap but the blades took 45 minutes to sharpen. For the short -track savy ones out there, the ice is so bad and everyone is getting multiple strips every practice. Had to sharpen again tonight so they'd be ready for tomorrow's ridiculously early session. I have to wake up at 5 to be at the rink at 6 for a 7:00am start on the ice.
Tonight Wil wasn't there because she was sick. We just did technique with lots of bands before and up-downs after. My knee was acting up tonight. I honestly think its just because i'm so tired. Tomorrow i'm planning to go to the beach with e'rybudy straight after practice and just relax until later when i have to try and finally go to a gym.
I did manage to get a core workout in the middle of the two club sessions and then i stretched and that was great. I felt much more flexible than i have been. However I tightened back up by practice. It was still encouraging. At least I know I can loosen up to a certain extent.
Got my i-pod charged up and we're gunna skate around to some Wale and Chiddy Bang tomorrow. Thanks so much Cal and Lee for always showing me good new music and for always having an extra i-pod for me to use. I have been using it so much.
I got to keep going strong. I just got to get to the 21st, then there's some sort of break for 5 days I think. Everybody needs it. Everybody's dragging. I'm by far not the only one.

Stairs; round 2

Back from my second stair workout. I actually have been driving sometimes when Alex is in the car and I drove today. First we picked up Sammy, then we arrived at the stairs roughly 40 minutes late (!) due to traffic. I mean we did leave a bit late, but really, I was going crazy with how the traffic is here in rush hour. Because of the freakin traffic, I missed the table jumps but I still had a great workout. Today was just ridiculous because of how hot the sun was. Its not at all humid but the sun is just so damn strong. I only did 4 sets last time. Today i set out to do 6. The first 2 were great. I thought i was superman. Then the sun got stronger and the legs got heavier, the shakes came, and I struggled to complete 5 sets. At the end, I did the last and hardest flight so I in effect did 51/3 flights.
Just a note about how amazing Coach Wilma is - She has had a messed up back for a while and we never here a word about it. Today I found out after the workout that she is really sick and I had no idea! She's the greatest. She always seems to see when we are at our best and tells us she saw it and she understands when we're feeling sluggish.
At one point the sun was so hot on my back, as i was bent over doing a one-legged jump set, that I stood up and just closed my eyes and tried to gather myself for I was seeing red and splotchy. I seem to be getting in great shape though because I don't feel too drained now and i'm gunna do a core workout before training tonight at 4:45.
Oh and i ended up just doing core yesterday instead of the gym because Wilma wanted to tell me the workout and technique personally.
Aight: Core, sharpen, nap, then practice. I'm out.

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

I should include that I pulled out some yoga during the stretching thanks to the free yet enlightening yoga classes I was fortunate enough to attend. Shout out to Gary Tacon - ur the man!
Just had a long bath in very hot water filled with epsom salt and then stretched intensely. Hopefully I loosen up a bit. I have been so tight since I came here. Its been a real problem. I can't even get all the way down into base position without my hip-flexers stressing. I think I can make it better though with enough work... just like anything.
Just took a nap. I have never slept more deeply during the day. y alarm was blasting in my ear for 5 secs before i woke up.
Aight, time to go do weights for the first time.
Ahhh its so hard to catch up to the present! When I'm not training, I'm sleeping. When I'm not sleeping, I should be practicing the cello (after all, i must keep it warm if i want to earn money with it). If none of the above, i'm sharpening my skates, going to the beach with people, eating, stretching, showering and reading. I fell that the more i can stay productively busy, the clearer my head will stay. Already, i'm expereriencing some mental drag during trainings - especially the ones at SIX IN THE MORNING!!
Anyway, the tuesday after beach training last week (I'm exactly a week behind now), I think we did 4x15 laps at 11.0 secs per lap until 7 to go, then negative splits to the end. 11.0 is a moderate pace for sure but it isn't so slow and then to excellerate steadily to the end....well, i guess that's why I'm here. I dropped out early in the first, then finished the rest, only once staying with the group till the end. They would be around 10.0 by the end usually. We always do lots of relays and we always finish up with a different kind: Either 2-man 4/5lap, 3-man 3lap, or 4-man 2lap relays.
Also, in the morning sessions when we have two ours of ice ($10 an hour - ya, it gets super pricy) we often do belt on the ice. This is sooooo hard. I was completely lost doing it for the first time tuesday. Also, we do drills where we wind up around one turn and down the straight then hold either on the left or the right around the next turn and cut inside the track to do a whole circle. Then we did an office workout but i cannot remember what it was - something excruciating, I'm sure. Instead of doing weights like the others straight off, Wilma told me to go for an hour run later in the day so i did.

Wednesday: The whole club is on the ice wed and sat. nights and its only an hour long. Fear not, this was the most grueling day so far. In the morning, after an hour drive to Culver city, I had my first taste of what the skaters were unonimously warning me was the worst (or best, depending on how u look at it) workout. No matter which accent it came from ( many Dutch, Italian, Hungarian, or Bosnian, ) all were in agreement that the stairs were death. Arriving at the site early in the morning, the top of the hill the stairs mount was covered in clouds. As I looked up the formidable hill, black clouds gathered with gulls circling madly, cawing and crying out "go back home and live like a normal human". Lightning bolts thrashed about and thunder shook my boots, but I pressed on... well, that scene would not have surprised me. :)
We started at the top of the 300some odd jagged stone steps with a light jog. Then we did some sprints and accels and went over to some stone tables. We used the tables for jumps of all sorts - one legged onto the bench, power jumps up to the table top and jumps descending from the table to the ground which ended with an immediate explosion up, tucking the knees... My legs were already protesting and we hadn't even begun the stairs. We finished with the table jumps and walked, or rather bounced to the bottom of the stairs. Will told me i only had to do 4 sets instead of six.
The stairs are completely uneven and vary in steepness. They are steepest near the top and also thicker so at the end one is basicly jumping straight up to reach the top. In the first set, we had to sprint up the first "flight" (On the way up, there are two little intersections of where the winding goat path crosses the stairs and Wil calls the stairs in between flights). We had a minute of rest befor frog leaping up the second flight and again a minute before sprinting up the steepest and final third. I thought my heart would literally burst through my chest at the top, my pulse was so strong and fast. But nonetheless, I had about three minutes before descending for rounf two, which consisted of sprinting up the first flight, then, alternating legs every 10 steps, we had to jump sideways, one-legged, from the base position from stair to stair up the second flight, and sprint up the third flight. On the way down, the second time i realised the descent was certainly no rest. Every step is so large that there's no avoiding the blunt compression one's back suffers. I tried going down the skinny dirt area on either side of the stairs but it was to dangerous and not much easier because it was so steep and slippery. It was cool the way so many people came to these stairs and used them as a workout, many parents challenging themselves to just make it up once. The third set started and ended the same and I forget what the middle exercise was, but I think it was something like holding one foot in base postion and the exploding onto the other - I can't remember. I sprinted up the final third and had to consciously tell my legs to keep lifting from the hips, though they were not complying very nicely. I was worried I would trip and bang my shin just as many had done before apparently, the proof being the dents in their shins which they made sure to show me. The fourth set and I finished strong! I sprinted up to the second flight as usual and hopped forward on one leg for ten each then with hardly any rest, took off up the third flight after one of the dutch guys and passed him at the top. I was proud of myself but they still had two more sets.
-Something else of note: After the second set, every time at the top, if I took a little weight off one leg it would start to compulsively shake - like a tremelo, but uncontroled. It was quite amusing watching it go. Many others were experiencing the same phenomenon.
Well the stairs sure did live up to their painful name but my body reacted surprisingly well. I was back on the ice that night for a relay workout which as usual left me completely drained and exhausted. Also, we did dryland based on the tape ladder before the ice training. With three people to a team, each team member did 5 laps, then 4, 3, 2, and 1. As the amount of laps decreased, the speed would obviously increase so that by the end, I had to sprint two laps after going hard for three and then almost instantaniously get ready for a push from Edyn, the Bosnian beast, and a mad one lap sprint. Then I would push Ingmar, and he would begin on the 5lappers again. After three cycles the set was over and we did two sets.
Thursday: Morning ice from 7:05 to 9:05. We did 4x 20 laps at 11.5 with negative splits the last 5. I think this was the workout - can't remember exactly. Of course, there were many other drills and relays thrown in. I was already doing better than monday. After ice was updowns with the belt connected to a pole. 10 each leg, then 20, 30 40, 30, 20, 10 - each leg. Then we did explosive bench jumps inside. We put one leg on the bench and one on the ground and trying to follow Wil's "HUP"s we did 12 jumps, pushing off with the leg on the bench and landing with the other on the bench. We did 3 sets and were done. Again, i was supposed to do weights but I met up with Julie Deisslin, my cello teacher and had a nice time with her and her fam. the whole day and night. I conked right out in a chair at her aunts
's house and woke with a start, for i had been dreaming that i jumped into the tracks of a metro. I slept like a baby in another room for an hour and a half and didn't recuperate from the training until much later. I ate the most i've ever eaten that day, possibly. We wen't to a friend's house at Sunset beach, a beautiful location and went to the beach and dinner.
Friday: In the morning, Miss deisslin dropped me off at practice on her way to the airport. We did a fulfilling ladder, something like: 4 laps at 9.4, 6 laps at 9.8, 9 laps at 10. 5, 13 laps at 11.0, and 20 laps at 11.5. Then the after-ice workout was one of those "are u kidding me?!" exercises. We did the turncable (belt) two sets each - regular;power;regular;power in each set. Then we did six sets of the following torture: With one partner holding, the active partner does around 20 seconds of running in place bringing the knees as high as possible, the belt around his waste for a little tension. Then, one partner sprinted as best he could while the other held him back with the belt tought. Then the partners switched. Then without the resistance, each partner sprinted the same distance. I was so tired after this, that space between my neck and shoulders was throbbing. In my opinion, this was harder than the stairs.
Saturday: Saturday morning I was utterly spent and I didn't do weights again. At skating that night we did 27 laps at 11.5, building speed the last 5. Then 20 laps at 11.5, again with negative splits the last 5. Then we repeated both. That was soooooo hard, but i guess i should learn to expect that with Wil's training program. I guess "I made a real statement" in the second to last set as I was the only one left with Edyn, the 3k machine, at the end. Wil came up to me after and compimented me, so did Anamiek, an older dutch girl, and so did my host parents, who were super impressed and Alexandria was who made that quote. Though i died and dropped off the last lap and a half, I was able to stay on longer than anybody ( Jeff Simon is not here right now) and it definately showed how far I had come come in less than a week. I died in the next one, but almost stayed on the whole time and made sure I finished the 20 laps. That is my goal - to finish everything instead of dropping off when my legs are burning to much to keep the pace up. I feel that is what really builds the stamina and muscle more than anything. It also builds mental strength to fight through the pain.
Sunday: Ahhh the precious off day. However, the action did not cease, for the Netherlands was in the Soccer World Cup Final and with the club having so many dutch skaters with their parents too, it was a passionate day indeed. We all met at a pub, after having all bounced away from the scheduled pub due to it being full, and watched the game. I had my money( or a dinner, as it were) on Spain and i won a lasagna from Alexandria because Spain finally scored a goal in overtime. After, I went to the beach with some people and had a good time.
Monday: We had a relatively easy session in the morning. We did nothing but relays the whole time. All sorts of combinations. Then later in the day we had beach training. The same training as last monday. I was so much better this week than last week with this training, it was amazing. I was able to do all 60 meters of the regular/power turn cable, though it was a struggle. The loop up the hill and around x 6 was so much better aswell. We did two sets of this then moved to the deep sand. We did suicides but with all kinds of jumps, then regular running - 4 in all. Then a bunch of us went in the ocean, which was soooooooooo nice.
Today: Tuesday - finally caught up. We did drills and exercises as usual for morning sessions then did 10 laps at 10.5 followed by a 5lap accel and did that 3 times I beleive. I was having a real bad day today and got a burr (blade trouble) in the beginning. That was real frustrating but I fixed it and led the last 10 lapper way to fast, starting out at 9.7 by accident, as Wil was not calling out lap times. However, I finished at 10.5 the last 3 laps. No one stayed with me except for Edyn. I messed up for sure but it was inspiring how I skated. What's more, i still do not feel whatsoever good on my skates. I feel rocky and unefficient and tired. So, can't wait to get those new skates.

Saturday, July 10, 2010

So after we arrived home in Foothill Ranch, we went to a pool by Sammy's house and I met some people and went in the pool. It was warm but it was so cool outside. The lower temp. has surprised me and caught me off guard so much here. I heard its always sunny and never rains in L.A. Well after the first couple days, it has been cold, overcast and rainy almost all the time though sometimes the clouds break and that deep blue sky comes out. I think its warming up now though.

So. Monday: Beach training in the morning. At a beach near Venice Beach I got my first taste of just how hard this program is that Wilma runs and how much I will have to catch up. I knew i was in trouble when after the "warm up" my legs were already screaming. In a clump on the narrow paved road winding along the beach, we first sat in basic position until Wilma said GO and then sprinted out of it. We did this twice. Then up downs into sprints, then one-legged up downs into sprints. Then dry skating then adding a jump to the dryskating and then the workout began: The turncable, which for those who don't know is basicly just a strong belt about 10ft in radius which goes around two people and one person provides resistence, walking slowly with the other person, as the latter mimicks the skating technique in the turns. This is extremely hard to do right I find and we were to do it for just under 60meters alternating between regular technique and just taking it further to "power". Each partner was to do this twice then go straight away into a jog down the path and wind-up for a sprint up a huge hill which at the base was deep sand. The hill was extremely steep and was around 25 meters long to the top where we were to drop back into a jog down the really steep path and then do the loop five more times. So the belt plus the running was one set and we had to do three sets minus the running the third time. I was only able to go half way and my holding was not very good with the belt and at times i could not see i was so dizzy at the top of the hill. It would be bad at the top but manageable and then after a few seconds a rush of dizziness would hit me. So after that, we moved to the actual sand on the beach. It was deep, fine sand. Then it was suicides. From the start position, explode to the first cone, about 10-15meters away and stop in the start position then explode back. Then do the same to the next cone, doubly spaced awayand there were six cones! After two minute's rest, we did the same. Then we moved further down the beach towards the water and did a twenty minute set of jogging, low-walks and dryskate. Then i rinsed off in the pacific ocean, my first training done.
I won't go into so much detail about every workout but i just wanted to give a picture of how grueling the training is here.

Getting started and catching up.

Hey everyone, not quite sure how this is gonna work and how i will notify everyone and how the pics will come out and all that, but here goes...

I got here in South L.A. exactly a week ago. The flight and pick-up was smooth. Vanilla Ice was on my flight but i wimped out on talking to him. Im real happy and lucky my dad is Mr. Fix it because i now have a laptop which functions perfectly albeit slowly untill i get the second memory chip. Ingmar, the orange-clad dutchman picked me up from the airport in an old black jeep which he is borrowing from coach Wilma's mother. He was coming straight from practice so most of what he talked about was how hungry and tired he was... a portent of things to come...He did however let me in on the fact that he and Sammy ( another skater) would be taking the old jeep offroading the following day. Then he proceeded to excelerate hard. The old jeep, groaning from the acceleration, just could not hold onto the lights on the inner ceiling any longer and with a "thwack" the lights fell out, dangling from the wires. We both jumped a bit, looked at the lights, and then started laughing.
Ill continue catching up but i gotta have some breakfast!
